In the more than three dozen villages in the Peneda-Gerês National Park, people lived in community until the 1960s. It was a way of feigning the difficulties offered by rough terrain and a harsh climate.
Connected by ox-cart sidewalks, without electricity and water at a distance from natural sources, generations of fighters were born in these villages, used to helping each other. For centuries there has never been a key to any door.
The world changed. The light came, the roads arrived, but the terrain remains rough and the climate, despite the warming, remains aggressive. Therefore, community life resists.
