Fojo of Wolf in Gerês

It is a trap used in the past by populations to attract and kill this mammal. The Iberian Wolf has one of the last refuges in the Peneda Gerês National Park. It is a species with the protection status of "in danger" of extinction.

The fojos, in most cases built in stone, will be, perhaps, the maximum symbol of cultural manifestations at the Iberian level of the relationship, so often fatal for the wolf, between human populations and that predator. They are structures whose construction involved an enormous effort and a large number of people, and are also true monuments of high ethnographic, cultural and scientific value.

At the global level, the north of the Iberian Peninsula seems to be the region where there are fojos in greater number and variety. Fojo of converging walls, Fojo of trapdoor, and Corral.
