Honey is a natural product obtained from flower nectar and bee excretions. In addition to being a great natural sweetener, this food is full of benefits because it has antimicrobial action, able to prevent growth or destroy microorganisms and thus protect against disease.
It is one of the most sought after articles by tourists in Gerês. Of unmistakable flavor and tone, it originates from the various homemade beekeeping farms throughout the mountain.
Honey has antioxidant and prebiotic action, the latter modifies the balance of the intestinal microbial, stimulating the growth and / or activity of beneficial microorganisms. Because it is rich in carbohydrates and sugar, it is a great source of energy.

Phenolic acids, flavonoids, certain enzymes such as glucose oxidase, catalase and peroxidase, ascorbic acid, hydroxymethylfurfuraldehyde and carotenoids. All substances contribute to combat the damage caused by oxidizing agents, present in food and the human body, thus preventing aging and diseases such as Alzheimer's, cardiovascular, among others.
